Olinda , Brazil, is one of the best preserved and prettiest colonial towns in Brazil. Founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese, the town’s history is linked to the sugar-cane industry. Rebuilt after being looted by the Dutch, its basic urban fabric dates from the 18th century. Although many Olinda buildings were originally constructed in the XVI century, most of what you see today dates from the XVIII century and after. In 1982, the Historic Centre of Olinda was declared by UNESCO.it is a great base from which to spend time in the region. With it´s great restaurants and charming historic pousadas it is a good place to stay and take day trips from.
